Health in general, Ailments of any kind

Saints Cosmas & Damian’s feast day is celebrated on September 27

O My Jesus, Saints Cosmas and Damian were twins who became excellent doctors. They refused payment for their medical care because they believed that when they treated patients, they were also caring for You. By conveying great love, they won the hearts of their patients as they taught them about Faith. I ask them to pray for the medical field, that they grow in generosity of spirit. Bring conversion to the unsaved and teach Christians how to serve You through their professional lives. Saints Cosmas and Damian, pray for us. Amen

St. Blaise: Physician

Throat Ailments

St. Blaise feast day is celebrated on February 3 (latin church), and on February 11 (oriental church)

The Institute for Traditional Medicine writes “St. Blaise is given special recognition on February 3, not only with a feast day, but with a unique ceremony that parallels the practice of anointing the sick. In this case, it is blessing the throats of those with throat disorders and anyone who wishes to avoid getting such a malady (or something related to the throat, even the words one speaks; Psalm 5:10). The blessing is usually done by priests (though deacons may also serve) and it is considered a sacramental of the Church.” (Institute for Traditional Medicine)

Father William Saunders writes “While we invoke St. Blaise for his protection against any physical ailment of the throat, we should also ask his protection against any spiritual aliment – profanity, cursing, unkind remarks, detraction or gossip. St. James reminds us, “if a man who does not control his tongue imagines that his is devout, he is self deceived; his worship is pointless ” (1:26) and later, “We use [the tongue] to say, ‘Praised be the Lord and Father’; then use it to curse men, though they are made in likeness of God. Blessing and curse out of the same mouth. This ought not to be, my brothers!” (3:9-10). Therefore, may St. Blaise protect us from all evil, physical and spiritual, which may attack the throat” (Father William Saunders is of the Arlington Catholic Herald.)

O God, deliver us through the intersessions of Your Holy bishop and martyr Blaise, from all evil sole and body, especially from all ills of the throat. Grant us the grace to make a good confession in the confident hope of obtain Your pardon, and ever to praise with worthy lips Your Most Holy Name. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

ST. Blaise, compassionate helper of mankind and faithful servant of God, who for the love of Our Savior did suffer so many tortures with patience and resignation, I invoke your powerful intercession. Preserve me from all evils of soul and body. Because of your great merits, God bestowed upon you the special grace to help those who suffer from ills of the throat. Relieve and preserve me from these ailments, so that I may always be able to fulfill my duties, and with God’s grace, perform good works. I invoke your help, as special physician of souls, for the grace I need to confess my sins sincerely in the Holy Sacrament of Penance and obtain forgiveness. Through your merciful intercession, I also beg you to aid those who unfortunately conceal sin in confession. Obtain for them grace to accuse themselves sincerely and contritely of sin they concealed, the sacrilegious Confessions and Communions they have made, and all the sins they have committed since then, so that they may receive pardon, the grace of God, and the remission of the eternal punishment. Amen.

My Lord and my God! I offer up to you my petition in union with the bitter passion and death of Jesus Christ, Your Son, Together with the merits of His Immaculate and Blessed Mother, Mary ever Virgin, and of all Saints, particularly with those of the Holy Helper, St. Blaise, in whose honor I make this novena. St. Bartholomew: Apostle of Healing

Health in general, Aliments of any kind

St. Bartholomew’s feast day is celebrated on August 24

O Jesus, Saint Bartholomew’s greatest desire was to know the truth. When first informed about You, his initial reaction was, “How can anything good come from Nazareth?” But as soon as he met You, he wanted to become one of Your disciples. You said of him, “Here is a man in whom there is no deception.” I ask him to pray against the deceptions that are influencing me and the people I know. Help us to experience Your affirmation when we are honest, give us courage to resist lying as a means of self-protection, and inspire our minds to recognize the truth when we hear it. Saint Bartholomew, pray for us. Amen.

St. Maron: Healer of Bodies and Souls (ce 345-410; his name also written St. Maroun)

Soul, Greed, Anger, Inner strength, Steadiness

Marion tradition to the cedars of Lebanon (Cedrus libani)

Saint Maron’s feast day is celebrated on February 9

The Institute for Traditional Medicine teaches us, From St. Theodoret writings (393-457) the book Historia Religiosa

“He cured not only infirmities of the body, but applied suitable treatment to souls as well, healing this man’s greed and that man’s anger, to this man supplying teaching in self-control and to that providing lessons in justice, correcting this man’s intemperance and shaking up another man’s sloth. Applying this mode of cultivation, he produced many plants of philosophy, and it was he who planted for God the garden that now flourishes in the region of Cyrrhus. A product of his planting was the great James [known now as St. James of Cyrrhestica], to whom one could reasonably apply the prophetic utterance, ‘the righteous man will flower as the palm tree, and be multiplied like the cedar of Lebanon’, [Psalm 92:12] and also all the others whom, with God’s help, I shall recall individually”….

In Theodoret’s description, one of the specific conditions mentioned as being alleviated by St. Maron was ‘shivering,’ for which he retained a strong reputation even after his death. Thus, St. Maron has long been known as the saint to appeal to in cases of disorders involving trembling and shaking, such as Parkinson’s disease. (The Institute for Traditional Medicine)

O Holy Saint of the open sky, the light of Christ’s teachings gave you strength and perseverance to resist the adverse elements and your example now gives me inner strength to manage my weakness. Most supreme of the hermits, who like trees adorned with leaves afford comforting shade, you give me shelter and refresh me. As you stood firm as a cedar, my shakiness is settled; as you outstretched your arms like great branches, I unwind my tension; as you felt the fresh breeze against you, I open my heart to the winds of God’s love.

St. Giles

Epilepsy, Insanity, Sterility

St. Giles feast day is celebrated on September 1

O God, we beseech You to grant us through the merits and intercession of St. Giles to flee from the vanity and praise of this world, to carefully avoid all occasions of sin, to cleanse our hearts from all wickedness by a sincere confession, to leave this world in Your love and rich in good works, and to find You gracious on the day of judgment. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Zealous follower of Christ, St. Giles, you took to heart from your early youth the words of our Savior: “Learn of Me, because I am meek and humble of heart.” Because of this, you fled from the praise and honors of the world, and were rewarded with the grace of preserving your heart from all sin and persevering in a holy life until old age. On my part, I have through pride, self-confidence, and negligence, yielded to my evil inclinations, and through this sinned grievously and often, offending my God and Lord, my Creator and Redeemer, my most loving Father. Therefore I implore you to help me through your mighty intercession to be enlightened by the Holy Spirit, that I may know the malice, grievousness, and multitude of my sins. Grant that I may confess them humbly, fully, and contritely, and receive pardon, tranquillity of heart, and peace of conscience from God. Amen.

My Lord and my God! I offer up to You my petition in union with the bitter passion and death of Jesus Christ, Your Son, together with the merits of His Immaculate and Blessed Mother, Mary ever Virgin, and of all the Saints, particularly with those of the Holy Helper, St. Giles, in whose honor I make this novena.
